New arms for Prince Daniel of Sweden, Duke of West Gotland

On 14th June 2010 the Swedish palace web page published the new arms of Prince Daniel, Duke of West Gotland. NHF chairman Tom S. Vadholm was the same day consulted by norwegian TV2´s internet service to comment on the coat of arms, and the interview is available (in norwegian) at TV2 Net News

Something which is omitted however, is that there was a slight problem with the presentation of the community of Ockelbo´s arms; the written blason and emblasonment (drawing) of these arms in the Swedish National Archive do not correspond.

In the blason, the field is divided in a pine-tree partition whereas the illustration shows a pine-twig partition.

The (Swedish) National Archive heraldic artist Vladimir A. Sagerlund said in a statement: ”As you say, there is confusion surrounding the description of  the Ockelbo arms.  We have of course noticed this, and  I have gone through the files on Ockelbo´s arms and note that on all the sketches and illustrations accompanying the proposals a pine-twig division is shown, whereas the blason describes a pine-tree version.

One explaination may be that since Ockelbo is the only community in Sweden with a pine-twig partition, uncertainty arose during the preparation of the blason, and the form of words was not properly thought through.  Ockelbo has  always had a pine-twig partition, and this was therefore also refered to in Daniel Westling´s arms. The blason of Ockelbo´s arms does not completely agree with the illustration and we would hope to correct this as soon as possible.”

Here are shown the arms of Prince Daniel, Ockelbo´s correct arms, and a version strictly following the (incorrect) blason with a pine-tree partition.
